As we buckled down to look at our options, we realized that preschool education didn’t come cheap. We prepared to set aside a big chunk of our income for this, as we were choosing between two highly recommended, albeit overpriced, preschools near our home. That’s when we met a lovely couple at a children’s party and just fell in love with their daughter who is so smart, charming and adorable. We were casually talking about preschools and they told us how happy they were about the one their daughter was attending.
That was the first time we’d heard about Milestone. I think the first thing I asked was how the rates were and I almost fell off my seat at the prospect of having to pay half of what we were expecting to. It was definitely worth checking. Among all the nice things this couple had to say about Milestone, the one thing that really stayed with me was how they were able to successfully potty train their daughter in school.
We had no real expectations when we went to visit Milestone, but we now had two requirements-children and potty training. We were getting quite demanding, I thought. We met three of the four sisters who own and run the school, and upon speaking to them, we instantly sensed the warmth and family atmosphere that we have come to love about Milestone.
It was during this open house that we were told about the feeding program. The children are fed in school four times a week and on Fridays they get to bring their own baon. Great, I thought. I only had to prepare food once a week. Little did I know that this would make a big difference in our child’s life. A lot of children are picky eaters, ours is. She subsists on chicken nuggets and plain rice all day, everyday. You can imagine our delight when Teacher Kat mentioned that she ate three bowls of rice when they served picadillong upo in school, or our shock when she said that Isabel actually ate the tortang talong. These are things that we could only dream of feeding her at home because she’s normally very resistant to new food.
Our life with our two year old used to be a rollercoaster ride, but within two months of being in school, everyone noticed the change in Isabel. We could speak to her and make requests, and she would comply. We could take her to the toy store, let her take in all the wonderful things around her and then ask her to go without any purchases. This was huge for us because after many episodes in the toy store, we were beginning to avoid it like the plague.
I guess you could say that we got more than we bargained for with Milestone. They have instilled in our child a genuine love for learning and have taught her values by example. We are now proud parents to a well-adjusted, smart and charming three year old who loves to learn as much as she loves to play. – Mommy Tintin Lontoc, mother of Isabel
