My first visit to Milestone was filled with a lot of expectations. At that time I was looking for the “perfect school” for my son, Anton who was then almost three.. While Anton had already spent one year in another pre-school, he was just learning how to talk and Tagalog was his main medium of communication. Like most parents, I wanted my child to grow up with English as more than just a second language. With this as my primary consideration, I remember asking Teacher Kat point blank, “So what assurance can you give me that by the end of the school year my son will already be able to speak fluent English?”
I can still picture Teacher Kat’s flushed face and almost hear her say something to the effect that, “I cannot assure you that your child will be fluent by that time because it will really depend on how well he adjusts to the school setting.” And while still a bit skeptical, we decided to go ahead and enroll Anton. Less than six months after that, I remember Teacher Kat pulling me aside one day to ask, Mommy Beng, why does Anton speak with a slang?”

This is just one of the many reasons why my husband and I look at Milestone as more than just a school — we consider Milestone as our extended family! Not only did Anton grow up fluent in the English language — he also grew up to be a very thoughtful and caring child. We credit this partly to his beloved Milestone teachers who allowed and encouraged him to be the best person he can be. That was almost three years ago. Today Anton does very well both at home and in La Salle Green Hills where he is a Grade 1 student.

This year our youngest child, Mentit, will be in Nursery 2 at Milestone. Much like Anton, Mentit was barely talking when she started school. And while Mentit is much more shy than her outspoken kuya, she has blossomed and made new friends in school. Again, a lot of credit goes to her loving teachers who immediately recognized Mentit’s uniqueness and allow her to express herself in her own way. Mentit is growing up very independent, determined — and yes, fluent in English, as well. More and more I see how Milestone is making a significant impact on Mentit’s very young and influential mind.

Since we joined the Milestone Family in 2003 we have come to look forward to the school gatherings and yearly events where we meet and get to know other members of this “clan”. We’re certainly proud to be part of this famiy and are happy to share our experience about it!
