My teachers say that they use the PROGRESSIVE METHOD in Milestone. Kids like me love to play a lot! Even my teachers play with me. They teach me and my classmates our ABCs and 123s through songs, dances, games, arts, and crafts. In that way, I learn while I play, which makes going to school so much fun and memorable for us.
Sometimes, my teachers invite guest speakers like doctors, policemen, and other people in the neighborhood to show and tell us more about the things they do. Other times, my classmates and I get to have fieldtrips to visit the different places in the community. Don’t you think the PROGRESSIVE APPROACH is so much fun? It surely makes me motivated to learn and excited to go to school!
My school helps improve everything about me. This is what my teachers call HOLISTIC DEVELOPMENT. It means that being a good student is not only being smart or intelligent (cognitive), but also being strong and healthy (physical), being confident and able to get along well with others (socio-emotional), being God fearing and polite, knowing what is right from wrong (moral and spiritual), and being able to do things on our own (self-help). They also teach me the importance of loving our country and being good Filipino citizens (cultural).
My teachers here in Milestone also use the INTEGRATED CURRICULUM in teaching. Who could’ve thought that in each activity, my classmates and I can learn so many things already? For example, in a simple baking activity, I can learn the different concepts from the different subject areas like math, reading and language, science, social studies, and arts.
Since my school is CHILD-CENTERED, my teachers often ask my classmates and I about our favorite things so they can use it in teaching us about our lessons. This keeps us more focused and interested in the discussions and activities. My school is also PROCESS-ORIENTED, which means that my teachers don’t only evaluate me according to our answers but they carefully study how I come up with them. They don’t judge what I know according to my answers because what’s important to them is my way of thinking and how I analyze different situations.
My teachers say that I am unique. This is why my school has an INDIVIDUALIZED APPROACH. My teachers sit down with me to get to know me better and to see which areas I need help on or which areas I excel in. They make sure that the activities they prepare for me are DEVELOPMENTALLY APPROPRIATE, which means that the things I do in school suit my age and level and can make the most of my talents and capabilities.
My school gives importance to a STRONG HOME-SCHOOL COLLABORATION which is why they practice close communication with parents. The school motto is, “your partner in helping children achieve milestones.” My teachers always encourage all moms and dads to work with them hand in hand. This way, it is easier for them to understand what’s going on with me, both at home and in school.
